DUBAI: Sharjah police have arrested seven men who were allegedly
involved in a mass fight using swords and knives following an argument
during a football match, local daily Gulf News reported on Thursday.
"Two
men were attacked with swords but the injuries were not serious, since
police immediately intervened to put an end to the fight before any
further injuries were inflicted. The two injured were taken to hospital
while the remaining five men were taken for further investigation," the
paper quoted a police official as saying.
According to a police
official, Anjad patrols were immediately dispatched to the Al Sha'ab
Sports Club in Al Hazana area after the police operations room received a
call reporting fierce fighting.
The seven youths arrested from
both sides include five Emiratis and two Sudanese men. They have been
referred to the Public Prosecution, the report said.
Sharjah Police have strictly warned young men from using sharp tools to end arguments and fights.
“There
should be other options used to solve problems rather than killing and
hitting each other. Stiff penalties will be imposed on youngsters seen
holding sharp weapons. The parents must closely monitor their children
and ensure that are not carrying sharp weapons that can jeopardise the
safety of people,” local daily Khaleej Times quoted a police official as
saying.
