stocks ended mixed on Tuesday in quiet holiday week trade, with Paris'
CAC 40 ending flat at 3,103.11 points while in Frankfurt the DAX 30
added 0.18 percent to 5,889.76 points.
London, Europe's top exchange, was closed on the final day of a four-day holiday weekend.
Meanwhile, Milan fell 0.99 percent and Madrid 0.15 percent.
With
currency trading also closed in London, the euro was flat in midday US
trade at $1.3074, compared with $1.3059 in Asian trade on Monday.
US
stocks edged higher Tuesday boosted by a strong consumer confidence
reading, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.08 percent to
12,303.80 points approaching midday.
The broader S&P 500 added
0.06 percent to 1,266.11 points, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed
0.13 percent to 2,622.17 points.
The markets received a boost when the Conference Board reported a strong surge in consumer confidence this month.
The
board's monthly index surged to 64.5 from 55.2 in November, back to the
levels of early 2011 after the collective mood soured deeply in the
middle of the year.
