LONDON (AP) — A British newspaper says a senior London police
officer who resigned amid the tabloid phone-hacking scandal has been
hired to help reform the police force in Bahrain.
The Daily Telegraph says John Yates will work with John Timoney, a former head of the Miami police.
Bahrain
announced this week that Timoney would lead a team of American and
British advisers training the Gulf kingdom's forces after criticism of
the violent crackdown against pro-reform protesters.
Yates
resigned as assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan Police in July
amid questions over his links with an executive at Rupert Murdoch's
media empire. A watchdog later cleared him of misconduct.
Police are investigating illegal phone hacking and police bribery by Murdoch's News of the World.
